Bob Kramer and Tony Metcalf founded Brothers in 1973. It was started as a part-time business to provide the two partners with income while they continued their college educations. After several months of considering their educational direction they decided to temporarily devote their full-time efforts to their fledgling business.
Starting with a wet/dry vacuum cleaner and shampoo machine, the two partners cleaned carpets in homes and small businesses, soliciting door-to-door. Within six months Bob and Tony decided to diversify into janitorial service. With Tony in sales and Bob handling production, they gradually accumulated a small group of contract accounts. They performed all of the work themselves, cleaning carpets in homes during the day and cleaning offices and restaurants at night. Working day and night, it soon became necessary to spread the workload and the first company employees were hired.
Brothers grew steadily, built an excellent reputation, purchased state-of-the-art equipment and in 1977 opened offices in the Mayfair Shopping Center on Coburg Road(now the Slocum Medical Building).
As the business experienced growth, the need for increased management grew as well. In 1979 Joe Isenberg was hired as the Office Manager. He is now our General Manager. Tom Sedbrook, Assistant Office Administrator, became a Brothers employee in 1981; Bob McLeod, Team Leader, in 1982; Steve Avery, Janitorial Accounts Manager, in 1985; Claudia Dalton, Daytime Team Leader, in 1995; Nancy Atkins, Human Resources, in 1996; Fred May, Customer Service Manager, in 1996.
We moved to our current location at 582 Shelley St. in the spring of 2004.
